The new guidance, published on Wednesday, comes into effect on Friday, which is also National Pressure Cooker Month.
In 2018, more than 10,000 people died from the coronavirus in Australia.
The Government’s food safety advice states that cooking rice, couscous, cousciless potatoes, and other rice products to the “soft cooking” stage should be avoided.
The advice also advises using rice that has been “soft cooked” before boiling, which means it has not been cooked to the final temperature.
The ABC’s Victoria Smith spoke to some of the experts and rice experts in the industry to learn more about the food safety risks posed by pressure cooker cooking.
