Posted October 20, 2018 11:33:22 An Israeli court has sentenced a woman to three years in prison after she set a fire at her boyfriend’s cremation service.
The incident occurred in January and was captured on video by her friend.
The woman, a lawyer, is the wife of an Israeli police officer who was shot dead during the riots that followed the killing of the officer’s wife, who was also shot dead.
She was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to three and a half years in jail.
The court did not specify a sentence.
Israel is one of the world’s most notorious execution sites and it is common for Israelis to be sentenced to life without parole for killing someone during a riot.
The Israeli police, in the days following the death of the Israeli police chief, were accused of failing to act as the security forces, instead focusing on the rioters.
They are accused of using excessive force and failing to provide adequate protection to the riot victims.
Israel has not executed a prisoner since the murder of Shimon Bar-On in October 2014, who hanged himself at the Gush Etzion Regional Prison.
A few days after the riot in which the police officer was killed, a Palestinian was killed by an Israeli settler who had attacked a woman, who is a close friend of the deceased officer’s.
